Children's Ministry
Hope offers a variety of opportunities for Christian Education
and fellowship for children. Each of these opportunities
includes a church-home connection, through the Four Keys
to nurturing the Faith. Included in these are: Sunday School
(ages 3 years to 5th grade, plus a special needs class); Puppet Ministry (4th & 5th grades); God Squad (3rd-5th grades); Summer Day Camps (ages 5 through 5th grade); Summer Drama Camps (1st through 6th grades); Vacation Bible School (ages 4 years through 5th grade); Christmas Musical (grades K through 5th); Children's Choir (1st through 5th grades).
Family Ministry -
Passing on Faith
Research has shown that faith formed through personal, trusted relationships, often, but not always, in our own homes. Therefore, Hope is working to become a "Child in Our Hands" congregation, partnering with the congregation and family, striving to help parents and other adults seek ways to nurture the faith in children. Hope offers several opportunities and resources to bring the generations together around the Four Keys of Nurturing the Faith. These four keys are: Caring Conversations, Family Devotions, Family Service, and Rituals & Traditions. Opportunities include: Family ADVENTure - held just prior to or on the first Sunday of Advent; Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner - held on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday; Together in Faith - classes for children and adults centered around the basics of our Christian faith, i.e.: prayer, forgiveness, the Bible, the Apostle's Creed, etc.; Third Grade Bible Class - for third graders and their parents; First Communion Class - for fifth graders and their parents; Family Care Groups; Family Mission Trips.
In addition, Hope offers many resources to help families in their devotional life. These include: The Four Key page and weekly devotional page in the weekly bulletin; ReadyClickGrow Your Family - an online resource with hundreds of ideas for use in the home - simply log onto www.hopetemecula.org and click on the ReadyClickGrow icon; Christ in our Home and - quarterly devotional books; Splash Cradle Roll - resources to help parents nurture the faith of children from birth to age 3; Advent & Lenten Book Fairs - purchase faith resources for use in your home or to give to friends and families.
Youth Ministries
PowerZone (Confirmation) for 6th through 8th Graders
Confirmation is a core value in Lutheran churches. The mission is
to teach our young adults, grades 6-8, the basics of the Christian
faith from a Lutheran perspective. The youth in this age group also
participate in a variety of activities for fun, fellowship, and service.
Retreats are offered during each school year to provide intensive
opportunities for spiritual growth, group building and service to our community. We teach our young people to serve those in need and work for social justice. A summer outdoor recreation trip is planned each year to help our young people appreciate and experience up close, God's amazing creation.
Transformers for High Schoolers
Growing in faith and serving Christ by serving others is at the heart of Hope's high school youth program. Our mission is to walk alongside youth in their faith journey and challenge them to a greater maturity in their walk with Christ. This is accomplished by weekly bible study and many activities and outings. Adventures may include whitewater rafting, waterparks, and mentoring younger youth. Our high school youth also spend a week answering the question, "Who is my neighbor?" They spend a week building and cleaning, and serving those in need in Ensenada, Mexico. Lives are changed on both sides of the border.
Adult Ministries
Adult Education and Small Groups
The objective of our Adult Education Ministry follows Hope Lutheran Church's vision and mission statements by assisting adults in deepening their personal relationships with God and their families through Christian education. To that end, we have accepted the challenge of lifelong learning within the Church, encouraging spiritual and personal growth.
Hope is a ChristCare congregation - a church of small groups rather than a church with small groups. Small Group ministry plays a vital role in bringing care, friendship, and closeness to the people of God. Hope's focus on the ChristCare model includes four pillars for small groups: prayer and worship, Biblical equipping, fellowship, and a mission focus. In effect, the ChristCare small group becomes a home church or a ministry group that keeps Jesus in the center of all activities.Through our various adult Bible-study and learning programs we are equipping people to recognize and to use their gifts in addition to challenging them to participate in the mission and ministry of the gospel. Current learning opportunities include in-depth Bible-study courses, workshops on prayer and spiritual gifts, and various small group studies - many of which are coordinated with sermon topics and children/youth activities.
The Alpha Course
The Alpha Course is a 10-week program that includes dinner and fellowship, educational and enlightening talks in the form of video presentations, and small-group discussion. The discussions are open to any questions that members of the group may have regarding the Christian faith and its relevance to the current times.
Prime Timers (Senior Ministry)
Hope's monthly Prime Timers events provide a venue for fellowship and education for our members and friends age 50 and over. Luncheon is included and can be potluck, catered, or provided by one or more members of the group. The monthly program can consist of musical or other entertainment, or a learning opportunity such as information on senior or social issues. Anyone age 50 or older is welcome to participate.
Drama Ministry
Drama Ministry at Hope has been successfully used as an enhancement for worship. Drama helps the Gospel come alive. Hope has had a continuing Drama Ministry since the early 1990s. Recent spring Broadway musicals have included Godspell, Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man, The Sound of the Music, and The Wizard of Oz. More than 100 people, from children to seniors have participated in each of our spring musicals.
Women's Ministry
This ministry coordinates the activities and programs that empower women to act boldly in their faith. Hope's unit of the churchwide organization Women of the ELCA offers many ways for women to be involved. There are daytime and evening "circle" bible studies using the Lutheran Woman Today magazine study. Our Mom's Morning Fellowship weekly group encourages attendance by women with small children and provides an opportunity for study and fellowship. Hope's ChristCare small groups also include women's groups who meet to combine activities such as sewing quilts for Lutheran World Relief or scrapbooking with fellowship and fun. Some of the events supported by the Women's Ministry include the Fall Boutique, Ladies' Candlelight Communion Service, Women's Fall Retreat, and the Spring One-Day Refresher.
Men's Ministry
Hope's Men's group is great way to meet and fellowship with other Christian men. Our Men's Breakfast group meets the second Saturday of each month for a great meal and short Bible study. The Annual Men's Grill Out is held in the summer and is a great opportunity for men of all ages to become better acquainted and enjoy one another. Opportunities to serve include trips to Luther Glen and Camp Yolijwa to help with maintenance and repair of our Lutheran retreat and camp facilities.
Music Ministry
Hope Lutheran Church has a variety of vocal and instrumental musical groups who provide musical leadership during worship services and special events. Vocal groups include the Chapel Choir, Celebration Singers, Resurrection Singers, and Children's Choir. Instrumental groups include the Temple Band, Handbell Choirs, and the New Sounds of Hope. If you are interested in joining one of our music groups, please call the church office.
Prayer Ministry
Prayer and Praise Service Join us the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM for a time or prayer and praise. This is an opportunity to praise our God, a chance to be up close and personal with him, and a special time for prayer, thanksgiving, and fellowship.
Prayer Chain Hope has an extensive prayer chain that is ready to pray at a moment's notice. The prayer chain works through the dedication of some committed Christians who give unselfishly of themselves. The objective of the chain is to get as many people praying for someone as soon as possible. The prayer chain begins with a prayer request call to the church office. The office calls a prayer chain leader and then the request is called to over thirty prayer chain members.
Prayer Ministry Team Our Prayer Team members are available after each service to pray with you. You may request prayers of yourself, or for family or other loved ones.
Care Giving Ministry
Stephen Ministry Our congregation has a group of people skilled in caring for those facing challenges in their lives. These people, called Stephen Ministers, have undergone extensive training to develop and nurture their caring skills. Stephen Ministry is a one-on-one confidential caring ministry. Stephen Ministers work with people who are experiencing many different kinds of crises and stress in their lives due to such things as hospitalization, terminal or debilitating illness, disability, aging, death of a loved one, unemployment, divorce, natural disasters, retirement, victim of a crime, deployed military, follow up care after the initial crisis has passed, and preventative care such as expecting a first child, upcoming marriage, or a child going off to college. If you or someone you know may need a Stephen Minister, please contact the church office.
Outreach Ministry
Hunger Ministry - Hope's Hunger Ministry seeks to raise congregational awareness of the need for their involvement, commitment, and advocacy in issues related to local and global hunger, poverty, and social injustice. An important aspect of this ministry is our Food Pantry. Hope's food pantry provides food in emergency situations for members and those in need in our community. The food pantry is usually in operation during church office hours.
Missions Ministry - Missions Ministry is defined as ministry beyond our local congregation and community. Our goal is to use our gifts and resources to advance the Kingdom of Christ beyond our congregation, to have a thriving Missions Ministry supporting needs of missionaries and mission organizations around the world, and fostering a culture where members of Hope are encouraged to experience missions to the level they feel called.
Community Services
Professional Counseling Services - are available at Hope through Lutheran Social Services. For more information contact the church office.
